Fishing Reports

  • Glad it was just the wife and myself out today. Worst day on the water I have seen in months! Nobody was catching and many guides left without a fish. Weather turned back to summer and the fish were napping somewhere. Hope they feed tomorrow.

  • Fish seem to be starting later each day. Didn't start looking until 8:00 yesterday and it really wasn't going strong until 9:00. Still small schoolies on top most of the time with the larger fish under them. All of these fish were in my area of the lake. We got some nice sandies on top water and the larger stripers were beneath the schools. We got them on slabs. Didn't use bait at all and still had nice box of fish.

  • Fishing close to Soldier Creek area has been good to me the last few days. The bite is starting a little later in the morning and get's better as it goes. One day the fish will stack up and let you slab them like crazy and one day it is easier to use bait. The topwater fish have mostly been small schoolies and the bigger fish are under them, but once in a while a school will show up with larger fish on top. The weather has been cooperating very well for striper fishing this weekend. I'll keep reporting as time allows and call me if you are coming down and want some tips.

  • Had a good day of fishing today. Fished with Jim Andrews, his grandson James from near Cleavland, OH and their friend Ronnie. Jim and Ronnie are from the OKC metro. Bite was good on topwater when we got on them around 7:15. Lasted about an hour and then slowed up for a while. Fish got active again and we went to work on them with slabs. James had the 2 largest fish of the day that came in around the 4 pound area. He has now become a slabbing expert and can go back to Ohio and tell his buddies how to fish for striper on Lake Texoma. Except for a couple of fish pulled on a shallow drift, all of these fish were caught from 36' to 63' of water. Great day!

  • Fished with the Max Friedauer family out of the Dallas metroplex today. Max had his wife, 3 year old daughter and 6 year old son. WHAT TROOPERS! We weren't out very long when the very heavy mist hit us along with a pretty good North breeze. Looked like fishing was going to be good, but was not to be. We struggled for every one we boxed, but it was fun to see the kids bring in some stripers. Tough day of fishing for most everybody around us. Heard it was good on another part of the lake but that is not where we were. Great family and kids with a tough day on Texoma.

  • August 9th and 10th were night and day different! Saturday the slab fishing was excellent in the deep water just outside Soldier Creek and towards the South. We were able to stay with the fish for quite a while. Fish were stacked and ready to eat. Sunday wasn't as kind! The wind was up and we were dealing with 3 foot waves when we first got out. Fish were in the same area, but hard to stay with and not as aggressive. We wound up using some bait later in the morning while drifting in shallower water, as well. It was a tough day for everybody I talked to and saw on the water was having a tough time. My group were regular fishermen and understood the game. We had a good time and caught a fair amount of fish. Just not a day of pulling fish in the boat on a regular basis.

  • Fishing has not been consistent the past couple of days, but that is typical for this time of year. Fish have no real pattern to follow except for one place we find them every day on the flats. Patience is the name of the game on getting these guys. I have fished mainly bait the last 2 days but they seem to be liking slabs better than bait. You have to be ready to run and gun to stay on these schools. My next trip out will be mainly slabs (I hope) and we will see how it goes.

Out at daybreak this morning in an area where the fish had been coming up early. Not very impressive. Headed up farther North on the lake and the fish were on top in large numbers. Wasn't very hard to catch them on any chug bug you threw out. Like always, the nicer fish were beneath them and caught on different type slabs depending on the depth. Fish were caught in water from 70' in depth to 18'. Breeze stayed up so it didn't feel quite as hot as it has been. No bait today, but the bait boats were doing good.

  • Didn't fish this weekend. We had plans to go visit friends and family. From reports I got, fishing was not that good and it has been very hot! Posted a nice cool picture of the weekend in the photo section.

  • Today was pretty tough out there for everybody, including us. We did catch some nice fish and it was mostly on bait. Never got going real strong. 8 year old Blake Adams from OKC metro pulled in the biggest of the day that went about 6 pounds. He caught quite a few fish and they gave him all he wanted. Caught fish in water from 24 feet to 65 feet today. Started on bait and finished on topwater with not much slab action for us today. Fun trip with Mark and Blake Adams plus their friend Blake Mills.

  • Had to sit out a thunderstorm this morning before getting on the water. The fish were not interested in artificials today! They wanted bait and I didn't have any. MY BAD. We managed to pull some fish but not nearly like the bait boats did. The rain sure changed things up from yesterday when you could have caught some on about anything. Fish are still in the same places, just a little pickier about what they were eating today. Back out on Friday and you can bet bait will be in the tank!

Topwater was absolutely crazy where we fished today. Fish stayed up in about a 3/4 mile area for over 20 minutes. These fish were only in 21 feet of water. When they went down we stayed with them another 45 minutes slabbing. Most of these were in 60 feet of water. The topwater fish were all keepers, but the slab fish were our biggest. Great morning on the lake!

  • July 26th, 2008. Took bait along with us today and should have just left it in the lake. Pulled a few small ones early on shad. Took me a little while to find where the fish had moved to from previous days and then the slabs went to work. Only saw the fish on top once today and they didn't stay up long. Ripping the slab up from the bottom was the real ticket for nice fish again today.

  • Today is July 24th, 2008. My site is just now coming up to full speed and I will try to keep some fishing reports on here for you to read.

I fished the last 2 days with top water lures and slabs only. Almost all fish were caught in deep water areas of 55 feet or lower. We did get up on acres of schoolies on the 23rd late morning in 20 feet of water. Caught them all on top water just as fast as you could get your lure back out. Fishing is very good right now.

    Testimonials

“Not knowing any guides at Texoma, we decided to use Sterling's on the advice of someone else who had a great outing with him. What a great time the 4 of us had. At times all 8 of our rods were in the boat, either waiting to get rebaited or taking fish off. Sterling kept us going all day like that. He was relentless in keeping us baited or in finding the fish. A very fine person just to talk with while fishing. We hope to use him again soon, even though he didn't give us a discount for saying this about him. Thanks Sterling,
    Frank Sumner”

“On June 18, 2008 a friend and I had a wonderful fishing experience with Sterling Smith as our guide. We were able to get our limit of Stripers and some Sand Bass. Sterling's service to us was excellent and I would gladly recommend him to any friend that wanted a unique fishing trip. I definitely would use Sterling as my fishing guide if I had the opportunity to fish Lake Texoma again.”

“I've been on two fantastic fishing trips with Sterling on Lake Texoma. He furnished all the fishing equipment and bait. We caught our limit of Stripers both trips and he cleaned all the fish. He also took pics with his digital camera and e-mailed us the pics! Thanks a lot Sterling for the great fishing trips and I look forward to future trips with you again.”
